Bad Snacks

This is only the third installment and I'm pretty sure I've mentioned 'bad snacks' a handful of times.  Or maybe I've just been thinking about bad snacks constantly so it feels like I've mentioned them over and over and over again.

Regardless, the point is that bad snacks are a staple of any road trip.

When it's actually a road trip, in a car, going from Point A to Point B, I favour both sweet and savoury.  For sweet, there is really only one choice.  Thankfully, it is a choice that is only available at gas stations (I'm pretty sure I've ever seen them anywhere where real food is sold.)

For savoury, there are a few variants available but all from the same 'root' food.  Makes a mess of the steering wheel, mind you.

What are these marvelous snacks, you ask??  Herewith the great reveal:

Sweet:
For sweet, we must turn to the Hostess with the Mostest...

Note the Real Fruit Filling.  Uh huh, that's right.  IT'S MADE OF FRUIT SO IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!  You can have as many of these as you want in a day. Don't worry, your steering wheel will telescope back in.

With Hostess' current financial woes, there has been a lot of noise about the fate of the Twinkie.  What we should be worried about is the fate of the pies. Snackocalypse indeed.

Cherry rocks it best, but blueberry is fine in a pinch (kinda by default... nobody buys blueberry as a first choice so it's always the last flavour left).

Savoury:
For savoury, we go to the root of all goodness - powdered cheese flavour.

#1 Choice - Hawkins Cheezies.  Pellets from heaven!

Note the Big Boy size.  How true is that?!

Best to have an alternate, though, as these ones aren't always available (I think because they sell out fastest!)  The puffy styro cheese turds (Cheetos, and the inevitable Kirkland Lake) are a perfectly acceptable option.  Gets more gunk in your teeth, so you have to stop at the roadside from time to time to use both hands to pick it out. But super tasty nonetheless.

Also Nacho Cheese Doritos.  Forget all the other flavours - nobody wants those (eg, "Late Night Last Call Jalapeno Popper" Really?!)  Also very healthy.  Like the pies.  Just look at this close-up.  I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that all those dark spots are flax seed and wheat germ.

What are your favourite road trip snacks (if your answer will be 'apples and spring water', puhleeese keep it to yourself.)
